Bringing Style to the Aquarium | Chapter 4

Faith: Aha, I haven’t been here in ages.

Jay: Is that right?

Faith: Yeah. I’ve been here on dates before, but lately I’ve been avoiding it.

I hate to say it, those dates were honestly a pain in the ass, so I don’t really have fond memories of this place.

Jay: I see. In that case, allow me to give you some.

Faith: Huh?

Jay: I’m sure I’m going to be relying on you a lot for this project. So in return, I’ll tell you the best way to enjoy aquariums.

It’d be a shame if you don’t know how fun they can be.

Faith: Hmm. Well, if you insist, then lead the way. I’d rather enjoy myself since we came all the way here.

Jay: Leave it to me! ♪

Faith: Aha, looks like you’re looking forward to this more than I am.

If aquariums are so fun, then maybe we should design the shirt around that theme.

Jay: Oooh, that’s a great idea! All the more reason to show you how great they are!

Faith: I’m counting on youuu—

———

Jay: This tank here is really clear. Look, you can easily see the fish all the way in the back, even.

The tank and the water inside are both super transparent, so you can see everything.

Faith: Huh, I guess it is pretty impressive if I take the time to look. All the fish swimming around inside paint a pretty picture, too.

Jay: Right? I agree! Aquariums are made for looking at the fish, after all.

Look at that school of fish there. See how their personalities come out even in the way they swim?

Faith: Huh? There’s no way they have “personalities”—

...Well, I guess I see what you mean.

Jay: That one there is more laid-back. And the one at the front is fidgeting, so it’s probably feeling pretty restless.

Faith: Aha, that restless energy is the spitting image of Shorty. ♪

Jay: Haha, you’re right. In that case, maybe the one being nudged from behind over there is Keith?

Faith: Yeah, spot on. It’s kinda fun to think about.

Jay: Hey, why don’t we try to portray the personalities of the fish in the design we make, just like we’re doing now?

Faith: It’s a good idea. It might be even better if we make the fish more like mascots.

Jay: Mascots, huh? I think the kids would like that, too!

Faith: Besides that, maybe we can... Uh, whoa, when did you all get here?

Jay: Hmm? Ooh, the fish have all gathered around.

Faith: I’d heard you were popular with animals, and now even the fish have come to see you.

Jay: Ahaha... I mean, I’m glad, but if they all gather around me alone then it’ll become a problem.

Faith: Don’t sweat it.

I think this would make other people happy to see, too. I know I’m enjoying myself.

Jay: Really? Then I guess it’s fine.

Faith: This really is quite the sight. We could use this in the design, too.

Jay: It’s gotten kinda busy around here, so why don’t we make our way toward the next exhibit?

Faith: Wow, they’re getting really close.

Jay: Haha, you’re in high demand too, Faith!

Faith: Not as much as you are, Jay. But this isn’t something you get to experience every day, so I'm fine with it.

Jay: This petting zoo exhibit is only open for a limited time. It’s a popular area for both kids and adults alike.

Faith: I’ve come here on dates before too, but like I said, I don’t remember it ever being any fun.

Jay: Haha, that’s too bad.

Faith: I mean, I think the girls had fun at least. All I remember is them yelling, “Look at me, look at me!” whenever I tried coming in here to pet the animals too. It sucked.

Jay: I-I see...

In that case, knock yourself out. It’s not every day you get to feed penguins and seals.

Faith: Yeah... Hey, don’t steal all the food for yourself!

Jay: These kids will take any chance you give them to eat it all!

Faith: Come on, share with the others. But man, these animals are pretty used to humans, huh?

They’re happy to get pets on the head, too... Aha, you want some more?

(They’re pretty cute, so I get why this exhibit is so popular... I think I’m enjoying myself, too. ♪)

———

Jay: Looks like you had a good time.

Faith: Yeah. It was fun, and I feel pretty relaxed after petting the animals. The music they played probably helped, too.

Jay: Music?

Faith: The background music. They mixed the sound of waves in with it, so it seems to me like they designed the area to help both humans and animals relax.

Jay: I wasn’t really paying attention, but that’s something you’re mindful of, huh?

Now that you mention it, the storage space was tastefully done, too.

Faith: You’re right. Any tools that might be dangerous are kept out of reach so the kids can’t hurt themselves.

But even so, they used color and guided your line of sight so they didn’t stand out, so the scenery itself didn't suffer for it.

Designing is the same. If you have something you want to do or something to show, then as long as you have a goal and a plan, you can make it happen.

Jay: I get it. I never thought about it before, but from now on I’ll try to look more closely.

After looking around at so many things here, I can see now where my initial design was lacking.

Faith: Aha, you really went and put everything you wanted to do into it all at once. Then again, that’s exactly why the kids wouldn’t be able to forget it, either.

Jay: Haha, I appreciate you saying that.

It’s fun to learn new things. Thanks a lot, Faith.

Faith: Aha, you too, Jay. I had a lot of fun on my end, too.

Jay: Haha, glad to hear it!

Faith: So, what now? You think you can make something good?

Jay: Yeah. I think my eye for design got a little better, and I have a clear idea of what I want to do now.

I don’t want to waste any more time, so I’ll take up the challenge again as soon as I get back!

Faith: Someone’s motivated. I’ve got a more concrete picture of the aquarium in my head now, so I suppose I’ll lend a hand. ♪

———

Jay: What do you think? I think it looks a lot different now.

Faith: Hmm? The fish look more like mascots now.

Jay: Yeah, it was a good idea, so I thought I’d try to incorporate it.

Faith: Why not? It looks a lot better than your first one.

Jay: However...

It’s still kinda ugly, isn’t it? Honestly speaking, anyway.

Faith: ......

To be blunt, yeah, I agree. But like, in a way that's still fashionable?

Jay: Ugh... As I thought...

Faith: Are you unhappy with it? I do think it’s a lot better than before.

Jay: I still don’t think it’s good enough...

Faith: It’s fine. This shows your personality, so that’ll make them happy.

Jay: Hmmm...

Faith: Would you want to wear this T-shirt, Jay?

Jay: ...!

Faith: Ignoring whether or not it’s tacky, I mean. Would you?

Jay: ...Yeah, I'd wear it.

Jay: ...Yeah, I’d wear it.

I personally think I’d wanna wear it. Honestly, I like it quite a lot!

Faith: Thought so. You seemed pretty pleased with it.

Jay: Haha, you saw right through me, huh?

Faith: Besides, both the staff at the aquarium and the fans want a T-shirt design that incorporates our own flair, right?

So it’s all good.

Jay: Yeah... Yeah, you’re right. Thanks; you’ve got me convinced they’ll like it.

What kind of design did you come up with, Faith?

Faith: This is what I have.

Jay: Ooh, as I thought, it’s a pretty fancy design.

You added a penguin and a seal...? I get it, you designed it with the petting exhibit in mind!

Faith: I did, but I still feel like something’s missing...

Jay: Even though I had nothing bad to say about it, you’re still hung up on something?

Faith: It feels like it’s lacking some of my personal flair, unlike yours.

Jay: Your personal flair, huh...

Hmm, I think you’re right that the enjoyment you felt while you were there isn’t really coming through...

Faith: ...Did I look that happy?

Jay: Yeah, ridiculously happy. It was all over your face, and you looked really relaxed when you were petting them, too.

Faith: Oh, that might be it...!

Jay: Hmm?

Faith: (Right, the background music... I really liked it a lot.)

Aha, I guess I really do love music. I got too caught up in only the things you can see.

Thanks, Jay. I know what’s missing now.

Jay: Haha, don’t mention it. I realized a lot thanks to you too, Faith.

So, what kind of design will you make now?

Faith: I don’t plan to change all that much. If I just add a little something to reflect how I felt earlier...

Jay: Oooh, it looks like they’re singing now! That’s amazing; all of a sudden your personality is shining through!

Faith: Come on, you’re embarrassing me. But I think you’re right.

Jay: I’m glad we were both able to come up with good designs. I’m sure everyone will be thrilled with these.

Faith: I hope you’re right. Well then, how about we send them out?

Jay: Yeah!

———

Keith: Ooh, look what we have here.

Faith: Woah, what are you doing here...?

Dino: We just came to check on you! We wondered if Jay was doing alright.

Keith: That was all him. I said I didn’t need to come.

Faith: Well you’re here now, yeah? Jay just put the finishing touches on his design.

Keith: No shit?

Faith: Er, forgive me for saying so, but it’s not like you’ve got a keen sense of fashion yourself, Keith.

Keith: Ngh...

Dino: Ahaha, I’ve been told over and over again that I’m terrible at picking our souvenirs, so I guess we inherited that particular gene from Jay! ♪

Keith: I-I’m just a regular dude...

Jay: Hey there, what’s going on, you two?

Dino: Jay! We came to visit! ♪ Faith just told us you finished your design...

Jay: Yeah, I came up with something pretty neat. Behold!
